appear to not start automatically, and then the installation failed !
but the service run correctly if I stop and start it manually.
What is the problem ???
thanks.

| Hi Jerome,
Per your previous post, it seems that you cannot apply SP2 for SQL Server
successfully. What is the error message? How do you apply SP2 for SQL
Server? More details are appreciated.
It doesn't matter whether the SQL Server service is started or stopped when
you apply SP2 for SQL Server. Before the installation, the setup program
will validate whether the user account is legal on SQL Server. Then the
setup program will connect to the SQL Server with this user account to
verify it is a legal one. If the SQL Server service is not started at this
time, the setup program will start it automatically.
Sincerely,

| It's the french dev edition.
The error is : "The program cannot verify the state of the server. Control
if the server can start and you have provided the right login/password"
(it's a translation from the french popup message)
If I see the service manager, during the installation process, SQL Server is
stopped, then the installation application start it, the login is validated.
I've tried with the NT authentication and the SA login, but no changes.
Also, the service is take a very long time to start.
thanks.
Jerome.

| Hi Jerome,
Please check the following information:
1. Can you start/stop the SQL Server service correctly? You can perform
this operation via the Service Manager, Services applet or the commands:
net start/net stop.
2. What is the SQL Server service startup account? If the SQL Server
service starts under a domain account, please add this domain account into
the local Admin group.
3. Can you access the SQL Server via the Windows NT login or the SQL Server
login which you specified when you applied SP2 successfully? Please utilize
the Windows login or SQL Server login which belongs to Sysadmin fixed
server role when you apply SP2 again. For example, 'sa'.
4. Please log on to this machine with a user account which belongs to the
local Admin group and apply SP2 again.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,

| I've allready try all of this.
* My account is in the Domain Admin group.
* The SQL Server account is the domain admin account
* I can stop and start this instance from anywhere (service manager, service
list, SQL admin console, command line net stop/start)
* I'm in the system administrator group on this instance
* I can login with the NT authentication and the SQL Server authentication
without problem.
I've another instance on this computer where the SP2 has been applied
without problem, and the security model is the same.
I think, I'll wait for the SP3.
Or I'll reinstall all my instances.
Thanks for your help.
Jerome.
