I get the message 'Error 5 occured while attempting to
perform NetUserChangePassword' in windows 2000 using sql6.5

This error occured when I try to reset CmdExec Password.

What in the world is wrong???

My guess is that the Service account that the MSSQLServer service has insufficient permissions
(to change passwords).

Thanks

Could you explain how I can check this. And then how to
fix it.

Thank you Horatio

Ask you network administrator for getting an account with appropriate permissions.
It was a long time since I used 6.5. Either right-click the server in Enterprise Manager and
change account from there, or use Administrative Tools, Services.
