For what it's worth, I had a problem with the log file not
clearing after a backup, and it turned out to be a broken
replication process.

The log won't clear any uncommitted transactions, so if
there is anything back there somewhere, whether from a
failing replication process or something else - the log
just keeps gorwing and growing.

You may need to track that down. At least one good
utility for looking at the log file is Lumigent's Log
Explorer.
