Hi! You can also configure sql server to give alerts via
the net command so it can still give visual alerts even
if you have a mapi failure. When you create a new
operator, you can select which messages that operator can
receive via email or net send. You can also configure a
fail-safe operator that sql server can send a network
message to. Also, you can configure sql server to log
alerts/sql server messages on the windows event log. Go
to Tools>Manage SQL Server Messages.
