Author Opportunistic Locking in SQL 6.5 & 2000

I have a Win 2000 server running ACT! 2000 and SQL 2000.
ACT requires that Opportunistic Locking be disabled for
all Win 2000/XP workstations and servers because data
corruption can occur if it remains enabled. If I disable
Opportunistic Locking on the server running SQL 2000, what
sort of problems/issues arise? Is the functionality of
Opportunistic Locking related to what kind of and how a
particular database is used? Thanks in advance for any
help.
