hi,

i had SQLServer Desktop Edition on my win98 PC, when i
upgraded to win2kprof the SQLServer client got uninstalled
but i think my .mssql data files are still there.

can i install a new SQLServer and make use of my data files?

You can reattach those files. Before reinstalling SQL Server make a copy
of all the data files. Reinstall SQL Server to the same location that it
was previously installed, with the same Data directory location. Once the
install is complete replace the new data files with the ones you saved.
