Author db_backupoperator Database Role

I've assigned this Database Role to an NT login that is
specifically for performing backup jobs. For some reason,
these backup jobs will not run unless I assign the NT
login the System Administrator Server Role as well. Does
anybody know why this is? I am under the impression that
the db_backupoperator role is the only role that needs to
be assigned to a login in order for that login to be able
to execute backup statements.

I am also having the same issue.

Not only db_backuoperator but also db_owner doesn't seem to have
permission to backup the database. The only role that works seems to
be the System Administrators role.

We are using SQL 2000 (if that makes a difference).

I hope someone can shed a light on this...

Thanks
