does dbcc shrinkdatabase work behind the scenes
I executed dbcc shrinkdatabase and it gave me DBCC
executed succesfully
but db size which sp_helpdb gives me is still the same

pls help

Depends on what version of SQL Server. For SQL Server 7,
it's a deferred operation. You can back it up to force the
shrink to happen immediately.
