public folder recovery options

| Hi,
I have an issue where I have migrated all my mailboxes on to a new
exchange2000 server. I followed the procedure outlined in Q307917. The
migration of the public folders on my old exchange2000 server seemed
to have replicated.
For various reasons we removed the old exchange 2000 server from the
exchange site.
When we checked the public folders. The folder structure and some data
had been replicated onto the new server. But it seems that some data
did not make it.
My question is. The old server is still intact, though the services
will not start (probably because the server was removed from the
site). So I am wondering if anyone knows of a way where I can recover
the data from the public folders on that server so I can bring it into
my new server.
Thanks in advance for any help.

| You may want to treat it like an Exchange 2000 disaster recovery by building
a recovery server then mounting your old databases on it. Then you can
export the public folder data to PST files using Outlook, forklift them to
production, and import them.

Thanks in advance.

| Hi Susan,
ok, I thought so. question is how exactly.
I have built an exchange server in a different AD. Exchange-wize it is
using the same site, and admin group name as the production server.
The file location of the pub.edb is identical to the production
server.
So do I create root public folders, dismount the public folder store
copy the pub.edb and pub.stm files into that folder then mounting the
public folder store?
Or am I missing a step?
Thanks in advance.

| well thats the question. I dont have a "restore". I have the actual
log and data files from the exchange server that I had removed from my
exchange site.
since I have the pub.edb and pub.stm files, how do I restore those
files as is?
Right now I am bogged down with the legacyexchangedn issue. I have a
new exchange server in a new AD, but with the same exchange
organization name and administrative group name. Once I did that all
the tech notes refer to doing a restore, which I dont have, persumably
in order to get the restore.env.
if you know of a better way of getting this pub.edb file into my
recovery server, I would be grateful.
Thanks again for your help.

| Looks like I did not need to. After doing the ldifde thing with the
legacyexchangedn a couple of times, then stopping the services,
copying the pub.* files into the mbdata folder and starting the
exchange services. I kept getting an error when mounting the
information store. I then rebooted the server. And got caught up with
other things so that when I came back to the project this morning I
found the public folders were mounted with the data inside them!
I guess the reboot must have fixed something.
Thanks for you help. Out of curiousity I will try the Q296788 article
for future reference.
