database reach maximum size

| Hi,
I have the standard E2K edition, 1 database, the priv.edb
is 10 GB and I thought we are still safe, but the
exchange is saying the database reached teh maximum, I
think it considered the 6 GB priv.stm file as well, I
have emptied large space, and made a normal backup for
the log files to apply, nothing seem to has changed, what
can I do to reduce the database file?
Thanks for any help,

| Exchange server standard edition has one database that is limited to the
size of 16 Gb.
If this is not enough consider using more than one server or upgrading to
Exchange
Enterprise edition.
If the database size does not seam to reflect the total mailbox size could
be you
will gain space if you will take the server offline and defrag the database.
The files do not shrink their is an automatic online defrag for performance
reasons but this want shrink the database.
If you need to reclaim a lot of space , you can take the
database offline and do an offline defrag this will
shrink the databases remember to backup the data before and after this
operation, this require at least another 120% more space than the database
files in the disk .
you can look for event 1221 at the app log to see how much space you will
gain from this operation.
To defrag dismount the database run from the bin directory ESEUTIL /D path
to the EDB file.
it while it is dismounted (offline )
Backup Exchange
Dismount the database
Open the command prompt
Run from bin folder eseutil /d path to the db (like eseutil /d
d:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb)
You must have at least 120% more free space than the database
you want to defrag If this space not available use /t to set the temp to an
alternate location. Run this command against each database you want to
defrag.
Backup Exchange.
This operation take about 1 Hr per 4 GB Database
Read more information before performing this operation.

| Thanks so much Ronen to take the time and effort to write
this, even viewer says to defrag as well, and I have
enough space, the problem is that the last time I took
the database offline (dismount) it was screwed and it
took me a week to get the private back alive (and teh
public was never back!), so I don't think I will have the
courage again to dismount and defrag as well!!! I will
refer to the resources you pointed, I just wondered after
all the efforts I made emptying all mailboxes and the
database still the same
thanks alot
