Exchange chunking (bdat) problem

| Greetz everybody,
I'm having a problem with one of my clients that reports a mulfunction
on his exchange system.
We installed a windows 2000 server (sp2) windows exchange 2000 server (sp2).
Some users complain that sometimes they get an "Unrecognized Command"
when they try to send an attachment.
The SMTP logs report the following:
0, 13, 41, 250, 0, HELO, -, TSONIDIM,
0, 27, 39, 250, 0, MAIL, -, FROM: <dtsoni@icap.gr>,
0, 45, 47, 250, 0, RCPT, -, TO: < ufficioinformazioni@eulergroup
.com>,
641, 4, 46, 552, 0, BDAT, -,

dwapaa8adwapaa8a,

....and so on...
Is it me or is the client (Outlook Express) sending the data using
incorect bdat attributes?
Based on rfc 1830 "SMTP Service Extensions for Transmission of Large and
Binary MIME Messages" the correct syntax should be BDAT <chunk_size> [last]
It seems that the client just tryies to sent BDAT 8ADwAPAA8ADwAPAA8A....
How is this possible???
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers mates

| I didn't look at the details, but I can tell you that I send attachments all
over the place with no problems. I'd suggest looking for something else.

| Check your Firewall Settings that might prevent SMTP traffic to pass =
in-outbound for Exchange.
You might also check if this happenning for all domains. I guess not.
For a domain that occurs this create an SMTP connector for this domain, =
configured on the general tab to use
HELO instead of EHLO
Most likely his command is being filtered out by the receiving servers =
firewall/routers.

| This is not the case since the error logs are created before the message
ever leaves my network. The error is in the commands exchanged between
the client and my smtp server.
Let me remind you of the error log.
0, 13, 41, 250, 0, HELO, -, USER,
0, 27, 39, 250, 0, MAIL, -, FROM: <user@mydomain.gr>,
0, 45, 47, 250, 0, RCPT, -, TO: <user@remoteserver.com>,
641, 4, 46, 552, 0, BDAT, -,
DwAPAA8ADwAPAA8ADwAPAA8ADwAPAA
8ADwAPAA8ADwAPAA8ADwAPAA8ADwAP
AA8ADwAPAA8ADwAP
0, 66, 32, 500, 0,
aapqd/ aaaaaaaaaq8acaiqal8haaa9ap8aaa
aaaaabdwc+aiaaoacaaa8agqapaa8a
, -, -,
0, 76, 32, 500, 0,
dwapaa8adwapaa8adwapaa8adwapaa
8adwapaa8adwapaa8adwapaa8adwap
aa8adwapaa8adwap,
-, -,
0, 76, 32, 500, 0,
aa8adwapaa8adwapaa8adwapaa8adw
apaa8adwapaa8adwapaa8adwapaa8a
dwapaa8adwapaa8a,
-, -,
When I tested this in the lab I saw no problems. My logs didn't say
"BDAT" but only "DATA" which is the correct command.
It seems that the client is sending out BDAT without the chunk size
option, which is wrong. For instance tt should be sending:
"BDAT 10 last
One Two !!"
....and the message should be queued for delivery.
IT seems that I just tryies to sent BDAT followed by the raw MIME data
in the same line.
