Author internal-only distribution group?

Is it possible to create a distribution group (appearing in the GAL) which
will only accept internal mail (ie. not external mail)? How?

Thanks,

If you mean that you do not want it to be accessible via SMTP, then just
remove the SMTP address from the list of addresses for the DL. This will
prevent ALL non MAPI clients from mailing to it.

If that is no good. You can create an "Everyone" DL that contains all of
your internal users and add it to the "Permitted to use" list on the
"Delivery Restrictions" tab of the DL. Or just add the recipients
individually.

(the exact names of fields and tabs may not be as indicated, but should be
similar. I don't have access to the Exchange Administrator at the moment.)

Thanks Ed. Does E2K use X.400 for internal email? I'm a bit confused about
MAPI's transport mechanics.

Can't speak positively on 2000. But I am pretty sure that 5.5 uses the EX
(x.500) address to address mail intra-org/site.

As for the previous post, I apologize, forgot that I was in a Ex2000 NG,
hope it still applies.

Not sure how the addressing is resolved from MAPI clients. I don't think
they do, I think that the API "hard wires" the client to the server. The
client just calls functions to get the message to the server, the server
then determines how to get it to it's final dest.
