Exchange 2000 and External E-Mail

| Hello.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My client is running Exchange 2000 on Small Business Server 2000. We
are running into some problems with sending e-mail to employees that
have the same domain name for e-mail but are not actually on the
network. For example, the domain is xyz.com. There are
peter@xyz.com, paul@xyz.com, and mary@xyz.com. Those three are
located in the network and are funtioning fine. Then there is an
additional used that is outside the building. john@xyz.com. When
messages are sent to him, an instant return message from the exchange
server pops up saying that the user cannot be located.
I read a few posts about the solution to this problem, to modify the
default policy, but when we tried this it does not work. Anyone have
a solution to this problem? It would be so helpful.
Happy Holidays.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Pete Mandracchia

| Hi Mark,
Thanks for the info. I tried that article posted from microsoft and
still have the same problems. People not on the exchange server get
bounced back as an NDR. I wish I could remember the technical support
call I had made a few years ago which fixed this problem. It was a
simple modification of the default policy. If you have any other
suggestions, it would be appreciated.
