| Hi -
I have a problem with a Usenet News server that i am
attempting to set up as part of an Exchange organisation.
The news service is intended to run on a machine dedicated
to the purpose; the "core" mail/calendar services have
already been set up and are running apparently OK (barring
one or two possible wrinkles ;-)
When we attempt to feed news to the new news server it
logs an error message as follows and no news articles are
transferred:
====
Source: NNTPSVC
Category: None
Type: Warning
EventID: 101
User: N/A
The server was unable to add the virtual root '/' for the
directory '/Internet Newsgroups' due to the following
error. The parameter is incorrect. The data is the error
code.

=====
Needless to say, I have followed this URL but have not
found an answer to this problem.
Looking around groups.google.com I found reference to an
article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;EN-US;q259373 (titled "XADM: W3SVC Logs Event ID
101 in the System Event Log")
However, I am not convinced that this covers our situation
as I do not see the "stop signs" referred to here, and the
description of the symptoms is not exactly the same,
although somewhat similar. (It is, of course, possible
that I am missing something here ;-).
In case it's relevant, there is an existing "Internet
Newsgroups" folder in the existing public folder hierarchy
on one of our existing mail store servers - naturally I do
not want to store all the news articles there wheni have a
separate server to do that job!
Any suggestions welcomed
Thanks
Richard
