Author E2K in child domain

I currrently have an E2K cluster (A/P) running in a child
domain. There is another server in the child domain
running as a GC and I also have a server in the parent
domain that runs as a GC. Problem is that when the GC in
the child domain is taken offline for whatever reason, no
one is able to login to the exchange server. Is it
possible for E2K to use the GC in the parent domain? All
users are members of the child domain.

What E2K Service Pack are you running? If it's SP2 (or SP3) check the
E2K server's "Directory Access" tab and see if it's using both GC's.

You may have a problem where the E2K server is not in any AD site and
it can't find another DC/GC.

Its running E2K--SP2 and W2K--SP2. The Directory Access
tab is set to auto and is using the GC in the child domain.

Also, both E2K nodes are in an AD site where both, the
parent and child GC is.

Can you uncheck the box at the bottom and add both GC's to the list?

Good. We had a server in Massachusetts connecting to a GC in Sao Paulo
because of a missing site. :P

In theory, adding both GC's to the list should work.
Before I make the changes, here is something interesting.
When the GC in the child domain is taken offline, there is
an event logged on the exchange server:

Source: MSExchangeDSAccess
Event ID: 2103
Type: Error
Process MAD.EXE (PID=1604). All Global Catalog Servers in
use are not responding:
gc.child.domain
gc.parent.domain

If Exchange knows that there is a GC in the parent domain -
- shouldn't it pick it up if the one in the child is
downed for whatever reason?

Yes, but if it's not responding it can't do that. And if it already
sees the other GC there's no need to make any changes to the server's
property page.

When you encounter this error, can you connect to the GC in
dc.parent.domain? Use the LDP.EXE tool and connect to port 3268 on
that server. Try it first from the keyboard of the Exchange server,
and then from some other machine.

After connecting to it, do I need to bind to it? So far I
can connect to it from the exchange and from another
server on the domain.
