Author Outlook 2000 to Exchange 2000 connection timeout

Outlook 2000 connects extremely slowly to Exchange 2000 server (on the same
switch with all user computers). The first attempt to connect times out and
a retry attempt will take about 45 seconds and Outlook works from that point
forward with no anomalies. Outlook usually connects in less than ten
seconds.

This problem seems to have begun today and the Event logs only display a
Browser error (Event ID 8032) and that has been resolved. The connection
timeout, however, persists (the server has also been rebooted).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

There are TCP/IP stack issues on the Outlook client computer or the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer.
There are hardware issues with network devices--for example, faulty cables
or connections, incorrect software configuration, or a device that may
require a driver or firmware upgrade. Network devices that may be causing
the issue include the following:
The network interface card (NIC) on the Outlook client computer
The NIC on the Exchange Server computer
A network switch
A network router
A network firewall
A driver or firmware upgrade is not compatible with your version of Outlook.
There is a problem with the Maximum Transmission Unit size settings in
Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

To resolve the issue please follow troubleshooting steps described in
Microsoft Knowlegde Base article at
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...;en-us;Q320843.

Please also review "XCLN: Troubleshooting Startup of Windows Client Using
TCP/IP" at http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...;en-us;Q155048.
