Script to Start IMAP Virtual Server?

| We do full off-line backups every night on Exchange 2000 SP2 / Windows 2000
SP2.
We use a simple script file to stop the necessary services and then copy the
database files, log files, etc. off to another server and then use another
simple batch file to start the services again.
However, we've noticed that 2 or 3 times a week, even though the IMAP
Service starts, the IMAP Virutal Server does NOT start. We can consistently
start it manually (Exchange System Manager: <organization> / Administrative
Groups / <admin group> / Servers / <server name> / Protocols / IMAP /
Default IMAP Virtual Server (and then Right-Click, Start)).
We can use IP Sentry to tell us that the IMAP port is not responding, but is
it possible to write a simple script that starts this IMAP Virtual Server?
If so, any pointers or references? Thanks!!

| You should be doing online backups, btw. They will be far more useful in a
disaster-recovery situation. They'll also purge the logs. See Q243380.

| (that KB article applies to Exchange 5.5 it says)
We _used_ to do online backups when we had Exchange 5.5 when disaster
recovery always worked.
Well before we moved to E2K in production we did many, many disaster
recovery scenarios (following the MS-provided documentation) and less than
1/2 of them actually worked (and left Exchange 2K in a usable state),
whereas the exact same tests we did with off-line backups EVERY one
succeeded.
Currently, we are only off-line for about 20 minutes on weekdays when we
copy the database files to another server and clean up the log files, our DB
files are about 12 GB total.
