Author can send but not recieve mail
Andy Story

I am running SMTP and POP3 on Exchnange 2000Greetings. I am on a W2K serv.
with AD. I am seeing things getting through the firewall on 110 and 25 as I
have opend them. Web site (IIS 5) is working fine. MX record and Host record
are set up on my DNS server pointing to the Exchange server (same box) and
DNS looks up correctly. I send mail out SMTP working well, and I can send
and recieve to myself. But I cant recieve from an external source. I am
using only windows authentication. I am testing on OutlookExpress and
Outlook XP. Each on different network. The Outlook XP tests fine when I
query my settings. Im stumped!! Any help would be most appreciated!
Thank You.

Who hosts your domain's public DNS? They need to create the MX record for
you.

Thanks for the reply!! :-)
My DNS server is hosting the domain's public DNS, (i think), that is my DNS
server is the Primary Name Server for the domain and BellSouth my FrameRelay
provider is the secondary DNS server. Would they need an MX record?

Check the domain policy. We could send but could not receive, because the
@mycompany.com appeared as @mycompany.org so everythind to the dot com
address was rejected.

I had a similar problem, I'm not certain but things started to work
when I changed the default SMTP Virual Server Properties' IP Address
from [All Unassigned] to the IP address of my internal private IP
address. Hope this helps.

We just went through the same situation only, we had to add the external
address to the SMTP Virtual Server (Properties>Access [TAB]>Relay>check off
"only the list below" and add your internal network i.e. 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0
and your external addy). The difficulty in this is keeping yourself from
being an open relay... both the SMTP Connector and the SMTP Virtual Server
need to be properly configured.
