Filter messages with blank sender

I tried testing this one and still the message gets through. If I used a
mail from:<filtered domain> which is listed on the senders list, the message
does not get through. I have the "Filtered messages with blank sender"
checkbox check. They way I address the blank sender is mail from:<>.
Filtering is enabled on the virtual smtp.

Is there something I am missing? Appreciate any help.
