| You need to restore the database to an alternate server then extract the
data into PST.
Restore the exchange to a new Active directory forest
Install Exchange 2000 use the same service pack as the old server
You should keep the same names of the organization , administrative group
(default first administrative group)
Restore the databases and mount them
Mount the databases them than reconnect the mailboxes to
the new users, you can use Mbcon to do it automatically for all
users on that database.
For step by step follow this information:
This is the way to restore the IS to deferent server:
1 . Install a new domain controller with a new name in a new forest .(you
can leave it in the LAN)
2 . Install Exchange 2000 with the same Org name, Admin group name, storage
group name and store name as the production server. (default first admin
group etc..... is fine)
3 . Configure the disks and file location as the Production server (so path
to files match)
4 . Restore the priv1.ebd,priv1.stm or what names you have after dismounting
the Databases.
5 . Reconnect the mailbox to a user in the new directory
6 . Logon with Outlook to that user and copy the items to a PST.
