I believe it will work - with 5.5, enterprise edition was required, but with
2000, I think standard will work...

here's an excerpt from an article on Technet - please note section on
"Software Requirements"...

How to Set Up Exchange 2000 Server on a Windows Cluster (Q263272)

Summary

This article describes how to install Exchange 2000 Server on a Microsoft
Windows 2000 Server cluster. This article assumes that the clustered server
has two nodes and is a member server in a Windows 2000 domain, and that the
cluster is configured for active/active clustering.

Note This article does not cover setting up Exchange 2000 on a Microsoft
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server cluster. Exchange 2000 Server is not
supported on Windows 2000 Datacenter Server until Exchange 2000 Server
Service Pack 1 or later.

More Information

System Requirements

Hardware Requirements

· A cluster that is certified by Microsoft for Windows 2000. See the
Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) from the following Microsoft Web
site for a list of certified clusters:

http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp

· Sufficient resources (memory, shared storage, network bandwidth) on each
node to support the entire Exchange 2000 server if one node stops working.

Software Requirements

· Windows 2000 Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

· Exchange 2000 Server or Enterprise Server
