NNTP - how to administer
|

| Have set up company newsgroups for use on LAN. Have
designated an operator.
How does the operator control the newsgroup for non-
moderated newsgroup.
For example:
If a subscriber "cancels" an article he as posted, a copy
of the article is placed in the control.cancel newsgroup.
However, nothing happens after that - the article still
appears in the original newsgroup. I read in the
documentation that the operator must process the
cancellation message, but doens't tell how.
If there is an objectionable post, how does the operator
remove it?
If an article should be moved from one newsgroup to
another, how does the operator accomplish that?
What is the interface the operator uses to control the
newsgroup?
Would appreciate any help anyone can give on these issues.
Regards

This is going to depend on the settings of the public folders that house the
newsgroups. The person who posted the cancel message must have permissions
to delete messages from that public folder.

There are a couple of ways. Via NNTP, you have to issue a cancel message.
Or, you can use any other protocal available (OWA, MAPI, etc) to delete the
messages. Again, the person who is doing this must have the rights to do
this.

With SP2 (I think, maybe SP3)+ you can move messages via MAPI, and they will
be moved in NNTP. you cannot do this strictly from NNTP, there is no NNTP
support for moving messages across groups.

Not sure what you mean by control. The operator would use cancel messages
to delete messages. Or you could use MAPI/OWA.
