System Manager from workstation

| I have Exchange 2000 SP2 running on a Windows 2000 SP2 member server in my
Active Directory domain. When I use System Manager from the Exchange server
or from a domain controller, it works fine. However, when I try to use
System Manager (also SP2, plus post-SP2 patches) from my Windows 2000 SP2
workstation on the same domain, it takes about one and a half minutes before
System Manager comes up. When it finally does come up, it works, except it
doesn't allow me to track messages, giving the message "The tracking
database on [Exchange server name] is not available or the message has left
the Exchange organization.
I don't think this is a DNS issue, as my PC has the correct settings and is
able to resolve names and services fine. For example, I can open Active
Directory Users & Computers on my PC without incident.
Any help would be appreciated.

| This sounds very much like a communications problem with AD. Try launching
MMC manually then adding the Exchange System Manager snap in and enter the
fully qualified name of the domain that the Exchnage 2000 servers are in,
see how long it will take System manager to start up then (should be
faster).

| Thanks for the response. I tried setting up the custom MMC console with an
explicitly defined domain name and domain controller, but both problems are
still there. Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Max
