Is there a way without purchasing a 3rd party product to measure basic
statistics on an Exchange 2000 system? All I really need to know at this
point is how much mail we are processing, inbound and outbound if
possible. Appreciate any help!

Sure...if you want to try and read through all the message logs manually.

You really need a good third party software product, such as Promodag, if
you want to easily get granular, detailed reporting from Exchange.

What about performance monitor? I have been trying to get it working, but
when/if i ever do it looks like it can provide these stats also.

I'll give it a try...is that part of the Exchange Resource Kit?
