Author Connection Timed Out

I have a couple of users telling me that they can not receive email from
some of their contacts, but are able to send email to them. The one error
they keep getting is this (they faxed this error to me):
----------------------
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more or its
recipents. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

user@mydomain.com
Connection timed out:
SMTP timeout while connected to mydomain.com [xxx.xxx.xxx.xx] after end
of data (3152 bytes written):
retry timeout exceeded
----------------------
1 - This user does exist!
2 - Never messed with the connection settings.

Windows 2000 SP2, Exchange Server SP2.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated. This has been ongoing since our
installation of Exchange. Thanks in advance!

Jason
