Accessing old Exchange DB's ??
|
|
|
| Hi...
My Domain (win2K) & exchange controller were hacked and
configuratively killed.. i still have the old exchange
data intact. I have rebuilt the new domain controller and
exchange server (same machine).. we needed to get email
working quick , so i had to just start new for
functionality. now i want to get the old information if i
can. i was hoping to access the old data with exmerge and
create .pst files, which i could then import into each
users new mailbox. i stop the services, switch the
mdbdata directories, start the services , but it wont
mount the information store. its giving me internal
windows errors, etc.
could the problem be that the data is inconsistent ?
maybe i have to run eseutil ??
i thought about the alternate server recovery process,
but i couldnt find out the old AD info, and dont know if
its the same ??
any suggestions or advice (outside of finding a new job :-
) ??
thanks,
Mike

| To restore an Exchange server you need to follow a set procedure, if you do
not this is what you get.
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/t...E2Krecovery.asp
Located at this site is documentation which can assist you.
Bottom line is the Exchange databases are very particular about a restore
for them to work. You would need to build the server to the same Spec on
software as the old one. For example, if you had E2K SP2 installed on the
old one the new one must have SP2 installed etc.... If your backup is
consistent then you should not have any problems. But if you are trying to
use the same DB's as the hacked server well chances are these are not going
to work since they are more than likely inconsistent. You can run ESEUTIL &
ISINTEG to make them consistent.
