Author OWA not on Port 80?
Randy

The company I work for uses a high-speed DSL modem to access the internet
and an off-the-shelf DSL router for port forwarding (SMTP, POP3, HTTP). I
want to set the system up so that www.domain.com goes to the website and
www.domain.com:8080 goes to the mail server for OWA. However, when I tested
OWA, it would not respond on any port other than 80.

Does anyone have any experience getting OWA to respond on another port? I
would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

And you changed the TCP port in IIS for your webmail machine?

Jay,

Of course. I went to the IIS admin MMC and changed it to 8080 and saw,
using Active Ports, that it was, in fact, listening on port 8080 but it
would not reply.

I believe that there is a TechNet article on the changes that might be
needed. I believe that there were some bugs around this issue.

I'd really suggest leaving it where it is though.

Well, that's dandy and all, but I think I need it moved in order to get
things working...unless someone can suggest a workaround.

Situation (as outlined before):
1) DSL connection with static IP
2) DSL router routes port 80 to the web server (thusly
www.anythinghere.domain.com resolves to www.domain.com)
3) I need to get OWA to respond from the outside, but port 80 goes to the
web server and even a redirect to the mail server goes to the web server
(see above).
4) redefining the port to 8080 or 8181 did not work from even the mail
server itself.
5) Is there a way to get www.mail.domain.com to resolve properly when
everything is sitting behind the DSL router (with port 80 forwarded)?

Thanks.

Why. just swap back your PAT on the dsl router.

The Exchange 2000 OWA is not as independant as the Exchange 5.5 OWA.
Exchange 2000 and IIS are very tightly coupled. Moving the OWA to another
port has been known to cause issues, and it is not supported. You will find
that you will no longer be able to administer Exchange 2000 via the ESM and
there will be problems with the WebStore.

Your only option for the OWA would be to enable SSL. Once SSL is enabled
then the OWA will use https instead of http, and communication will occur
via 443, rather then 80.

Port forwarding. Turn it off. Go with 80.

I have the same problem, but was able to get other ports to
work...(8888, 8889). My problem was more related to the ISP
blocking port 80 from the outside (because of security...)... Any
way, OWA worked fine ,but had the ESM problem, and possibly
IIS Services not starting correctly. You can use a cable router
to remap the IP port coming in also...looking in to that...

The SSL option intrigues me... How do I go implementing that ???
