Author SQL Server 2000 Exam:70-229

Hi,
I need to study for this exam.
I have no knowledge or any experience with SQL.
So, I thought it will be wise to purchase the SQL Server
training kit together with the book available.
For the training kit, I found that the most updated one
is of Micorosft: MCAD/MCSE/MCDBA Self-Paced Training Kit:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database Design and
Implementation, Exam 70-229, Second Edition.
As I would like to get the best of these studies, I am
looking for the best book which will take me from the
most basic to the most advanced issues.
I found two books, but I need to choose only one:
1. Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (With CD-ROM)
2. SQL: The Complete Reference, Second Edition.
If someone can recommend me for a better book, please go
ahead.

Regards,
Michael

Neither!

use Sql Server Books online, the help facility that comes free with an
install of sql server - its more than enough!

If your company is paying, then u may as well buy a book or 2, the
advantage being u can easily carry them home to read, or read them
while travelling

IMHO, "Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2000" by Kalen Delaney is THE print
sql server bible. That said though, it may not necessarily be the
ideal book for the beginner.

check out the reviews at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...4718146-5053402
(including one by Fernando Guerrero, who is a well knows SQL Server
MVP)

Wrox books are usually pretty good, though i have never read any of
their Sql Server ones. they may be worth checking out.

Hi,

I feel that Microsoft Press books are the best and you must get them.
After you finish with the books and before you go for the exam, you
can also use some practice tests.

Samantha

I agree wrox press books are very good.

I general I find the Microsoft books to be very good (excluding
anything with mcsd/mcsd etc in the title). However I have noticed a
decline in quality and general presentation over the past year.

Here's another one to consider: Que Exam 70-229 MCDBA,MCSE,MCSD,MCAD SQL
Server 2000 Database Design and Implementation by Thomas Moore.

It can be found by searching for 70-229 on Amazon. Take a look at the
reviews for it. I have it but have not gotten to that exam yet. It looks
pretty reasonable, but I also have Transcender for 70-229.

Get Robert Vieira's Book, not directly aimed at the 229 exam but if your
starting from scratch it's a superb book.

ISBN: 1861004486

I did and blew the 229 exam away!

Hi,

i believe that the MSPress books are good for exam
preparations but if u want something that is more in depth
for proper work and all....WROX is a great book.

But then, hey, tht's just my opinion.
