Mix languages on MCSD.NET?
|
|
| Mike Best 2003-05-28, 2:24 pm |
| Is it permissible to mix programming languages on tests to get the MCSD.NET?
For example, take the VB.NET Winforms test and the C# Webforms (ASP.NET)
test. I've seen talk of people doing this, but I've also seen talk of
language tracks, such as "the VB.NET track." The Microsoft site is somewhat
unhelpful in clarifying this.
Any insight would be helpful. Has anyone successfully done this?
Thanks, Mike

| I think the answer is yes, you can mix and match as long as you have one
core exam from each of the core areas. The requirements are clearly spelled
out here:

| Thanks, Scott. While this page does not explicitly say this is allowed, it
also doesnt say it *isnt* allowed. I guess I was comparing this with the
MCSD from VS 6.0, where you could not mix a test from VB with C++.

| I have VB windows app, and C# web app in my MCSD.NET. You can mix the
language in your track without worrying.

| Could you please explain why I can not mix VB and VC for MSCD certification.
I didn't find such limitation in MCSD requirements at Microsoft.com.

| quotation from http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/mcsd/faq.aspQ. It
looks like some core exams in the MCSD track are also available as
electives. I'm confused; which exams are core exams and which are electives?
It looks like some core exams in the MCSD track are also available as
electives. I'm confused; which exams are core exams and which are electives?
A. In the MCSD track, Exam 70-100: Analyzing Requirements and
Defining Solution Architectures is a required core exam for all candidates.
Candidates must then choose two exams from among the desktop applications
development exams and the distributed applications development exams to
satisfy the other core requirements. The desktop applications development
exams and the distributed applications development exams are also available
as electives. Please note that some elective exams are scheduled to be
discontinued or have been discontinued; see Discontinuation of Exams for
more information.
Candidates may fulfill the MCSD core and elective requirements by
passing the following exams:
Example 2
Core Exams
a.. Exam 70-100: Analyzing Requirements and Defining Solution
Architectures
b.. Exam 70-176: Designing and Implementing Desktop Applications
with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0
c.. Exam 70-015: Designing and Implementing Distributed Applications
with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0
Elective Exam
a.. Exam 70-152: Designing and Implementing Web Solutions with
Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0

| There are six "core" desktop/distributed exams and you choose two of them
for your required core exams. You can use any of the other four as an
elective, or one of the elective-only ones such as the Interdev exam.
