Author What's a Pass? (70-316)

Hi

Just starting preparing for the 70-316 exam. The practise exam in the
MCAD/MCSD Self Paced Training Kit from Microsoft has 50 questions.

I can find no information at Microsoft's training site or in the text book
about how many correct answers are required to pass the exam?

I realise the Microsoft only provide PASS/FAIL results after the exam is
completed - but I would obviously feel better prepared if I knew what the
PASS mark was, so that I can compare this to my results during the practise
exam.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Tony

No one outside Microsoft knows, so don't worry about it.

OK - but at least while I'm studying I'd like to know if I'm passing or
failing.

There are 50 test questions on the CD. How many do you have to get right to
pass the exam?

Microsoft no longer publishes pass mark requirements nor
the actual results of the exam other than pass or fail, so
there is no way to know.

Interesting - I realise that they don't publish this information - but I
would have also thought that some idea of what is required to pass would be
helpful.

For example - do you have to get EVERY question right on the exam? Or just
70% of the questions right - or 50% right?

Although I understand why not publishing the results after you've taken the
test makes sense - it still seems a little strange to me to be studying for
an exam that I where I have no indication of what is required to pass. I'm
confident in the material - and really don't mind sitting a 'blind' exam -
but I find it curios to say the least while studying that I have no way of
'measuring' progress.

I've yet to complete the practise exam in the MCSD text I have from MS -
maybe I'll see the results at the end of this.

Yes, i agree that it is a pain to not know, but from my
experience from MS Certification tests, normally around
70% is a pass, i reckon i may have got between 3-8 wrong
out of 55 so should be less than 85% pass mark. I have not
seen any cert exams where a pass mark higher than 80% is
required... I used PracticeTest+ from SelfTestSoftware,
and by the end i could sit a 50 question practice exam
with maybe one mistake due to misreading a question. Just
make sure if you use any practice test software, make sure
you understand while the wrong answers are wrong and why
the right answers are right and you will do well.
