Author Which Books to get??? Show me some love!!!

The MCAD and MCSD lead into one another, this much is
obvious.

My question is probably redundant and hopefully not
terribly annoying.

If you wish to take the MCAD certs which of the myriad of
possible books to choose from should you go with?

I have more VB experience than C++ so it seems reasonable
to me that I should go with the VB.Net track.

That said, the page that lists the books seems to tell you
to just go buy everything. I'm confused and not finding
much help anywhere.

I apologize if the answer to this is terribly obvious and
I've overlooked something.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Patrick Hayes.

There are many more books besides the MSPress ones mentioned on the web
site. I'm a big O'Reilley fan myself but there are others out there as
well.

Honestly, the best answer is for you to go to one of the big bookstores,
grab 5 or 6 books off the shelf and start paging thru them. The best books
are the ones that are written for your current level of competency and are
organized in a way that makes sense to you. Maybe you start out with a
simpler book and move on to one of the more advanced titles AFTER you're
comfortable with the basics and can judge the content better. Maybe you're
ready for the more advanced books right now. Some publishers have
particular "patterns" that all their books follow and some people find this
useful. You've got to look at these things to really know.

If you go internet, don't forget bookpool.com - - they often have discounts
as good or better than Amazon.

On amazon.com they have ratings by people who've bought the books, which
helped me a bit. I've used New Riders book (for MCSD VB 6.0), which we're
excellent. The Sybex books on MCSD Visual Studio 6.0 were o.k, but they
tended not to go into very much detail. These days I tend to rely mostly on
the MSDN library, SQL Books Online etc, since that is where most of the info
comes from (although it takes a little while to find what your looking for).
If you do find any books that you'd really recommend, let us know.
