Failed on 70-300 today. damn!
|
|
| Guilherme Magalhães 2003-03-26, 8:23 pm |
| I took and failed the bloody beta exam in november.
And today I took and failed again!! I have the damn .NET analysis
experience (3 years of it) and I had no difficulties with 70-100. I read all
the material that I could found and I failed! I can't believe that I
failed!! I never failed on a live exam. 13 passed scores, and now this! I'm
soooooo pissed-off! Microsoft cheated on me! ((
Someone cleared this test?? How I can have a better preparation? Where I
did wrong?! (((
Anyway, I booked it again for 04/02/2003. If I get another "fail" I'l kill
myself. Please help with links, tips, money... anything!
TIA

| Hey, calm down man!
Failure is a part of life and you have to work it out! :-)
First of all, you have to try to remember which parts of the test were worst
for you, I mean, where you felt more uncomfortable.
You can take a look at Tim's links on www.codeclinic.com. I heard a lot of
people who used these links, and I toke a look myself. They look good.
On the MSDN Library there is a topic only for enterprise architecture, where
they provide you also with some case studies. You can read trough that.
I recommend also (if you can) take any practice test that features case
studies (SelfTest or MeasureUp, both for 70-100) and use it to read the case
studies, try to answer the questions and discover where and why you got
wrong. It can help you see a lot of details that you're mission on the case
studies. You can say, OK, but 70-100 is based on VB/VC++ 6.0. Doesn't
matter. The intent here is to read case studies and catch the details on
them.
Also, on your next attempt, take with you a lot of paper and take notes of
EVERYTHING that should look interesting for a question. When I toke my exam,
I toke notes of almost EVERYTHING. Maybe you won't read it while you're
answering the questions, but it will help fix on your mind what was
discussed on the case study.
Use your time until the last minute. I remember I finished each case study
leaving something between 30" to 1'20". Saving time will not do you any
good.
I hope it helps you on your next attempt.
Cheers,
Paulo
BTW: Looking at your surname I was wondering: Where are you from?

| I'm writing down everything that I can remember about the test, so I can
read stuff about it.
While searching for MCAD preparation material I saw the Tim's page, but he
don't have too many 70-300 links as he do for 70-320 and 315. I'm planning
to make a more accurate link page like he did for 70-300.
I'll dig more deep into MSDN. I read some articles about architecture and
some best practices, but not all of them.
I almost never use the notebook. I'll try do this on my next attempt.
Yep.... I finished the test with 30min left. Maybe I could use that time to
check my answers...
I'm from Brazil Paulo, my family is from Italy.
Thanks for your tips. :]

| How many questions did you get on each case study?
My case studies were the same as yours. I remember I had 120 minutes total,
30 minutes for University, 30 minutes for Museum, and 60 minutes for
Delivery Company.

I like to stress that you must use your time at most and must take notes of

you fix it on your head. :-)

| Thomas Ulrich informed that when you do the test ouside an country that has
english as native language you get plus 30min to get it done.
Then I had time extension, since I took the test in Brazil.

| I didn't get a time extension.
I think you should get a time extension if English is your second language,
regardless of where you are. To me, this is like being handicap, I have a
disadvantage over native English speakers.
| |
|
| So did you pass it first time? You even had time to write notes? Did you
have a time extension? You didn't have any problems with reading in English?
| |
| Paulo Reichert 2003-03-27, 1:23 pm |
| I had a total time of 150 minutes (as I remember).
English is a second language for me, but I have used it a lot in my life to
have some comfort with that. I haven't any problems with the case studies.
The time was enough to almost copy the case studies, but some people
certainly will find problems.
And yes, I passed the first time I toke it.
Cheers,
Paulo

| Don't be so hard on yourself...
I bet many people failed this exam, but they just won't admit it.
You had the guts to admit it, so be proud of yourself!
Now take it again.
I am taking it again too, but I'm afraid I will make the same mistakes, so
I've decided to wait for the MS Press book to be published, hopefully April
2nd.

I think you will be given the extension anywhere if you ask.

| I looked on Prometric site and for 70-100 it is possible to choose "English
Second Language" and the allowed time is 3:15 the same as for "U.S.
English". What is the difference then?

Maybe it doesn't work or isn't reflected in the online system. Or maybe my
understanding was just wrong. I've never tried to use the ESL extension.

| From South Africa, Prometric's booking system gives 2 (English) options for
each exam -- English and English Second Language .. I assume that selecting
second language invokes the time extension.

| I forgot to tell the Prometric guy to select for me ESL so I took the normal
English one. The guy was not able to tell me if it gives you more time for
ESL. Anyway it was enough time for me.

| Yes, there is time, if you do not copy everything, but
just the most important details and requirements. Then,
even if you don't use your notes, you can clearly
remember the requirement, or at least where exactly in
the case study is the information you need.
I use this approach, and I have always had enough time
(when I took the 70-300 beta, it took me exactly 120
minutes from the beginning of the survey to the final
score screen, although I had a time extension for a non-
english speaker).
