| I have failed 70-176.
I thought Desktop VB was for 1 or 2 tier apps and for
small depts etc. If this is true why does the exam ask
about deploying to 1000s of users then?
This exam has me so confused. I really felt like I was
answering questions for the Distributed Vb 70-175.
Can someone give me an idea of how to approach the exam.
It was suggested to use Transcender, but I don't want to
memorize a bunch of questions and answers, I want to
become profecient and pass the exam.
Help Please!!!
Thanks in advance

I think the line between the desktop and distributed exams is a little fuzzy
too. In fact, I recommend studying for both exams before taking either.
There's a great deal of overlapping material, and a little bit on each exam
that seemed to me like it belonged on the other.
Memorizing the Transcender or any other practice exam definitely won't do
you any good, but some people still find it useful to work through a
practice exam, mostly because of the explanations and references that a good
one provides. The goal is not to score well on the practice exam, it's to
use it to learn. I recommend at least taking a look at the free demos each
practice exam offers - and look at both the Desktop and Distributed
versions. Read through the explanations for all of the questions, whether
you answered correctly or not.
What kind of VB experience do you have? Did you do any other preparation for
the exam? If you search this newsgroup, you'll find lots of posts discussing
the exam and feedback on many study guides too. And if there were any topics
you saw on the exam that were especially difficult, read up on them because
you're almost certainly going to see questions on the same topics when you
retake the exam. You may even get some of the exact same questions again.

Thanks Tim.
I do have some otj experience with VB. And I have been
using several books to study with. Also doing the online
classes. I have just started the 2nd part of of a 3 part
Distributed class.
Packaging and Deployment and maintenance are my 2 big
hangups. I just am not getting it.
If you happen to find any brain cells laying around please
send them my way. They are probably the ones that jumped
out and ran away when they realized I was going to go on
this wonderful cert journey.

| I would suggest getting the Transcender exams because they
are close in content to what is on the MS exams, and you
can get a feel for how questions are asked. When the test
has ended a screen will appear that shows your score, and
using a bar chart, the nine sections (Deriving the
Physical Design, Creating Data Services, Testing the
Solution, etc) you were tested on, the number of questions
asked on each section, and number you got correct. If you
want to see your answers there is a button at the bottom
of the screen for that purpose. Since you can see how you
did in the sections without seeing your answers you can
still take the exam and not end up memorizing the
questions. There is even a test that will allow you to
select questions from a specific area that you want to
work on.

| Mary,
Don't feel too bad, it's a lot of information and I think a large part of
the battle is being able to remember what you read. If we could all just
remember everything we've ever read, like Mr. Data (and with his speed),
life would be so much easier! Find out what the best training guides are
and get them, preferably one with practice questions. I recommend that you
buy the Transcender test because it's not cheating. You will see a
different set of questions on the actual exam and the Transcender test will
show you where your knowledge is weak and give you more confidence when you
take the actual test.

Another book that I would highly recommend for the VB6 exams is "MCSD in a
Nutshell" by James Foxton - see here http://tinyurl.com/6gsw
This book cannot be your ONLY source of information, by any means, but is
very useful for a detailed overview of material from which you can study
those unfamiliar to you further elsewhere.
