I think that's probably the best book for it. The MS 70-229 Training Kit is
also pretty good and includes specific hands on exercises, which are very
helpful to me. My fingers are slower, but they learn better than my eyes.

| One thing I've noticed is that the book covers more than what the exam requires. I'm not too sure
about this, but I assume these chapters to not be covered under the 70-229 exam, and thus are
skippable :
Advanced Queries
Advanced Design
Analysis Services
Full-Text Search
English Query
Advanced DTS
Scripting Administrative Functions with WMI
I'm not too sure though. Would be great if anyone who ever went through these chapters could
confirm.

There are indeed chapters in the Professional SQL Server programming book
that cover topics outside the 229 exam objectives. It is not intended as an
exam study guide, so there may also be exam topics it doesn't cover. I don't
have the book handy, but I wouldn't skip Advanced Queries or Advanced
Design, and Full-Text Search questions did appear on the SQL 7 design exam.
I'm pretty sure the others you mention are outside the scope of the exam,
though.

| Yup, came across Adv Queries, Adv Designs and Full-Text Search questions in the simulation exams I
took.
thanks tim.
