Author Is it common fail MS cert exams?

Hi,

I recently finished my MCSD in .NET. I took all of the exmas as beta
exams, except for 70-229 (SQL 2000 development). I passed all of the
exams. I recently met the first person who told me that he failed a MS
cert exam. That made me wonder how common it was to actually fail one
of these exams. Also, do people fail the beta exams too? I was
wondering if MS let most, or all, people pass the beta exams just as a
thanks for taking them.

Just curious,
Mr. XML

MS doesn't cut beta testers any slack on passing. Getting to take the exam
for free is really the only tangible bonus they provide.

Lots of people fail MS exams, including betas. Most of them don't advertise
that, and no doubt some outright lie about it. It's really nothing to be
embarrassed about, but it's obviously no fun whether a live exam or beta. On
the other hand, when people pass, they will often make sure everyone
possible knows about it. I think that's the most likely explanation for why
'pass' results seem to dominate.

There's probably also some of the "gambler's memory" at work for those who
retake and eventually pass - you really do forget about the bad
experience(s) and focus on the good one. Except with gambling the bad times
almost always come last!

I'm scheduled to fail one tomorrow at 11:45 AM (70-215, final one for my
MCDBA). I already blew the money on the exam, but if I pass, my employer
will give me $125 to go celebrate with!

One of the reasons behind the removal on the exam report of the topic
break down, and eventually, the score too.

I'm a beginner on MS certs and I have made so fat only 5 exams. I passed
them all. I've finished my MCAD, almost finished MCDBA (have to take 70-215)
and almost finished my MCSD (have to take 70-300).

A friend mine (that startet to get certified almost with me) took 3 exams
and passed all. Now he's trying to finish his MCSA by completing the exam
70-224. He has made alreay two attempts and failed.

I know other guy who already tried 70-224 three times and failed them all.

I have a friend who needed to try twice to complete the exam about Visual
InterDev 6.0 (don't remember the number)...

As any examination, you can pass or fail. I can't say that the required
score to pass a MS exam is too high (usually around 65%), but if you're not
prepared you will fail for sure.

Cheers,
Paulo
