| Hi all,
I am going for MCAD and will eventually target MCSD. I am going to follow
the following sequence of exams.
70-315
70-316
70-320
Once I get these three, I will be MCAD, right? After that I am planning to
go for the following:
70-229
70-300
Will it be a right sequence?? and will I be an MCSD once I clear all the
above exams? (Provided that the first three exams will be counted toward
MCAD also)
TIA,
FOB

| No, this is not the right sequence. To be MCAD You should follow this order:
70-315 or 70-316
70-320
70-229
Then You can take 70-300 and the test left between 315 and 316 to get MCSD
cert.
If You follow your order, You will be MCAD only when You get the MCSD cert.
Another way to get MCAD cert is to take instead 70-229 exam a vb.net exam
(70-305 or 70-306).

| I believe you're a bit confused. The requirement is that you not use (two
web-based exams) or (two windows-based exams) to meet the requirements. 305
(VB.NET Web Apps) and 315 (C# Web Apps) are considered equivalent exams, but
translated into another language much as a spoken language would be. The
measured skills are basically the same, just with a different syntax. 306
(VB.NET Windows Apps) and 316 (C# Windows Apps) are the other pair that
cannot count as a core and an elective.
So the following are valid for MCAD (assuming 320 is constant):
70-305 (VB.Net Web Apps)
70-306 (VB.Net Windows Apps)
70-320 (C# XML)
70-315 (C# Web Apps)
70-316 (C# Windows Apps)
70-320 (C# XML)
70-305 (VB.Net Web Apps)
70-316 (C# Windows Apps)
70-320 (C# XML)
70-315 (C# Web Apps)
70-306 (VB.Net Windows Apps)
70-320 (C# XML)
Note that you'll still need a non-programming elective before getting
MCSD.NET, and I passed 70-229 on the first attempt and consider it a
worthwhile exam. But, you can get MCAD using only programming exams (a Web,
a Windows, and an XML).

| You are right. The combinations below will achieve MCAD, then MCSD.NET. I
intend to do the same combination for MCAD, I completed the 70-316 so far.

| There are two basic tracks:
1) web development, application development, and XML development
2) web or application development, XML development, and non-programming
elective
You can pick whichever language you want for each development category.
(a|b): pick one
(web), (windows), (xml)
(305|315), (306|316), (310|320)
(web|windows), (xml), (non-programming elective)
(305|306|315|316), (310|320), (229,230,234)

| MCAD is the "lower" level of certification. From
http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...equirements.asp it requires:
1. One of 70-305, 70-306, 70-315, 70-316
2. One of 70-310, 70-320
3. One of 70-229, 70-230, 70-234 - or -
If you used 70-305 or 70-315 (Web), one of 70-306, 70-316 (Windows)
If you used 70-306, 70-316 (Windows), one of 70-305, 70-315 (Web)
MCSD is the "higher" level of certification. From
http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...mentsdotnet.asp it
requires :
1. Two of 70-305, 70-306, 70-315, 70-316 where one is Web and the other is
Windows.
2. One of 70-310, 70-320 (XML and Server)
3. 70-300
4. One of 70-229, 70-230, 70-234
The original poster wanted to first be MCAD with a Web, a Windows, and an
XML/Server, which will fulfill the requirements. Then he wanted to add
70-229 (SQLServer) and 70-300 (Solution Architectures), which will give him
an MCSD.

ummm... But you do not know what is required, how interesting....
To answer your three questions (in order) Yes, it's up to you, Yes.

| Alan, there is no point for such remarks "But you do not know what is
required, how interesting".
That person probably just wanted a confirmation. It would not be nice to
know that the combination is wrong after studying for months and spending x
amount to find out that you went for the wrong exams. Also, the exam
requirements are a little bit confusing. Ok, just a very little bit
confusing There are also people who never worked with Microsoft
technologies and never took any Microsoft exams who are just getting into
those things.

| Too me the question was stupid, and shows a luck of initiative. But
yes, it was pointless of me bothering to reply.
The exam requirements are not confusing at all.
For people, as you put it, "who never worked with Microsoft
"technologies and never took any Microsoft exams who are just getting
into those things", I would have thought they would have 'discovered'
more about the first steps in the microsoft certification 'experience'
from co-workers or from the microsoft site, rather than some obscure
ng.
Anyway, sorry if my remark offended you.

I disagree. The C#/VB.Net mutual exclusion is unusual and I think the
requirement formatting on some of the MS pages is misleading. I believe I've
posted an incorrect description of certification requirements on this group,
and I've also corrected people with even more certification related
experience than I have (online and offline).
I think there are plenty of dumber questions here for you to pick on.

Absolutely. For me, there/their/they're is very easy!
Also easy for me is that 'everyone' is singular and 'their' is plural. But I
understand that this isn't so obvious and some people deliberately prefer
political over grammatical correctness.
But, as you meant to say, everyone to his own.

| The requirements are not totally obvious.
I remember making a post to you early last summer asking for clarification.
I felt it would be better to ask rather than risk taking the wrong exam to
complete the MCAD.
I appreciated your response at the time.
In retrospect, the requirements seem straightforward, but that is in
retrospect.
Everyone to her own.

| What is so unclear about "
Exam 70-305*, 70-306*, 70-315*, or 70-316*
If you use Exam 70-305 or 70-315 to satisfy the core exam requirement,
you may use either Exam 70-306 or 70-316 as an elective.
If you use Exam 70-306 or 70-316 to satisfy the core exam requirement,

"
If a think shit such myself (as Tim would agree), can understand the
above, why can't anyone else? After all it's only three exams!

| I'm taking the same path. In the hindsight, it's apparent that I should have
taken 70-316 first.
For some reason 316 is 1 hour longer. 315 just builds on top of 316 (minus
webforms).
