Author How have you used your Certification?

Hi All,

I got my MCSD 4 years ago. I have been working with .NET for at least
a year and a half. Two coworkers got me interested in taking the .NET
exams. I studied for a bit and passed 70-315 last week. I am
currently studying for 316. So, I guess I'm going for the MCAD and
then the MCSD.NET.

For me, the exams and study materials get me better aquainted with the
software tools I use everyday. Plus, I learn some cool techniques.

But back to the certification. How are people marketing or using
these things? I know..."to get a new job" or "to get better pay".
But I haven't seen many positions requiring (or even mentioning)
certification. Many people I work haven't thought seriously about MS
certification. At my current job, I mentioned my MCSD during the
interview and they looked at me funny. And, I doubt that I could pick
up ladies at the local bar by flashing my MCP card. But I haven't
tried that yet.

So, does anyone have any interesting stories about how they used their
certification to attain some goal? Can you share? It would make
studying for these things a little easier.

And if you have a VS 6.0 track MCSD, why would anyone go for the
MCSD.NET? As far as I know, it is still good.

Just looking for stories...

Regards,

Bill

Hi Bill,

I think this is not true about MS Certificates, MACS Certificate really a
skilled certification if
you really has hands on experience then nobody looked at you funny.

But now-a-days brain dumps and other exam material are easily available on
net, so every body
got MS Certificate without any hands on experience.

So, first improve ourself then blame on Certificates.

Regards.
Shahid. Ahmad.

IMHO certification won't get you a job or better pay! Work experience,
enthusiasm, social skills, or a college degree will.

Certification is useful for getting your employer to pay your computer
books. It's also useful for keeping your knowledge up to date. And that
will give you a good name among colleagues.

Say you're hiring someone to develop a .NET solution. You can choose
between a VS6 MCSD and a .NET MCSD. Whom would you choose?

Hi Bill,

I have "some" CS college degree from a non-US country and a MCSD has helped
employers understand what I can do with MS tools in the US.

I'm also only interested in working with MS tools, and the MCSD have
probably scared the MS fobic employers away. A MS certification shows that I
am a specialized IT professional. Now I work with the tools that I'm
specialized in, making me even more specialized and productive.

I also use a passed certification "event" to keep in touch with potential
employers and clients. Everytime I pass an exam I will send them an updated
resume.

The one with the most technical experience within the business sector
of the employer.

Apologies in advance ...

Three candidates (A, B and C) arrive at a job interview. =20
The interviewer gives them a scenario:

I: You're leaving the ladies room, and you see a =A350=20
note on the floor. What do you do?
A: I pick it up and give it to my boss.
B: I just walk by and leave it there, the person who=20
lost it will go looking eventually.
C: I pick it up and put it in my pocket, Finders Keepers.

Who gets the job?

[PgDn for answer]

The one with the biggest tits!
