Anybody taken 70-315 yet?

I took it yesterday. The only 'surprise' was that again there was some
VB.Net code. I saw it on a few questions, but it's not really a big deal. I
might even have missed it on some other questions. Just imagine semicolons
and you're good.

I thought it was pretty similar to 316, although I had less time left over
after this one. There seemed to be a lot of questions that wouldn't fit on a
screen. None were extremely long, but there were enough that I had to keep
checking the clock, which is usually not a problem for me.

Mine had 90 questions with 180 minutes for them (plus extra time for survey
& comments).

I took it this morning. It was similar to the WinForms exam in that the
coverage was even across all topics. It was pretty easy. Now I have to
wait 5 more weeks to find out that I failed WebServices....

Is there an advantage to taking a beta exam??
I was waiting to let the tests get through beta with study materials
published before taking them.
I have been using .NET for a year and a half now.

I take beta exams for 2 reasons.

1. No Braindumps. If I get my MCSD.NET on all betas, I can prove that I
got it without the help of braindumps.

2. It's free.

The drawbacks are obvious. Vauge questions (wait... there are those on
production exams...) and 90 questions in 3 hours is just plain boring and
long.

I've taken all three c# beta exams and I'm glad I did. Since I think I
failed web services (does anyone actually think they passed that one?), I
know what to study for when it goes live. I think I passed ASP.NET this
morning and passed Winforms.

You have to be invited to take them btw.

I doubt there is a great advantage... The exams are free, but you must be
MS's guinea pig. MS will sometimes have a designation for the first 5000 or
so certified folks, but this only serves as bragging rights.

The graders may be a little more lenient, you have to take 90 question test
instead of around 60, but in all likelihood they are probably not any more
lenient.

You get to sit the exam for free, and get a good feel for the questions, if
you pass great, if you don't you have some insight for study and retaking
it.

I mostly agree with the other responses so far. Free is nice, though I've
also done MS betas that were half price ($50 then). But those all had some
kind of bonus - I think one included another free voucher, others had
vouchers or software (that's how I got VS 6 Pro) if you passed. So it was
well worth the $50 for me.

The biggest appeal for me is that there generally aren't any exam prep
materials available, especially braindumps. I've seen recent MS exams dumped
before going live, so the beta date is really the only evidence I trust to
show I passed the exam on my own merits. You DON'T need study guides, exam
crams, transcenders, or anything else to pass any MS exam I've ever seen
(about 30 now). If you really have experience and know the subject matter,
you should be able to pass the exam cold. The exam outlines MS publishes
should make it pretty easy to make sure you know what's coming and do some
extra study if there are areas you haven't encountered in real life. They're
the only exam specific material I use for betas.

The worst part about the betas is waiting for results. These are all
supposed to be about 8 weeks, which is a lot better than some of the old
ones, but still makes me nuts. The length of the betas is a distant second
for me - it only adds another hour or so to most exams.

I might have. I won't be shocked if not, but I have a habit of trying to
predict my exam score (in an alarmingly detailed way). I started when all
the exams reported actual score, so I had a lot of chances to adjust my
estimates.

I figured I got just over a 700 on 70-320. That's certainly no guarantee I
actually scored in that neighborhood, and while it passes many MS exams,
they have had some with required scores over 700. But I would think 310/320
will have relatively low passing scores given how difficult the exam seemed
to be.

I figured a score of 847 on 70-315, so I'm pretty sure I passed that one.

I figured around a 650 on 70-320. With about 4 hours more of studying the
right stuff (i.e. COM+), I could have passed it with ease. We shall see.
If I do pass it, I will do a dance around my cube and let everyone stare...
I earned it.

If the betas are free, how can you apply to get them?

Maybe you could sell tickets?

I've got a study guide I created if anyone's interested for the ASP.NET
exam(s).

email me for it.

I thought it was a bit harder than 70-316 (Windows apps). I struggled with
the time, it was not enough for me.
Also, there was no time to make comments on the questions. They usually give
half an hour to comment on the questions, but this time they didn't, I
wonder if it's because I did not select any questions for comments.

I think that's a 'quirk' (to be kind) of the VUE software. It skips the
comments period if you don't mark the Comment check box for any items.

The Prometric software always offers the comment period (30 minutes for this
one), but they don't offer a separate Comment check box for the items. The
separate box is nice. I usually have to make comment notes during my test
time on question numbers and a brief note so that I'll have enough time
during the comments period to say everything I wanted.
