Author MCSE Vs MCSD

What is more likely to get me a job, MCSE or MCSD? I am based in London,
just graduated with a 2:1 in BSc(Hons) software engineering but can't
get a job because got no relevant experience. I am thinking about doing
MCSD.NET to improve my chances but was told that there are more
opportunities with MCSE. So not sure whether to leave my programming and
switch to networks for a job? Your comments are appreciated.

The number of MCSD.NET (0) is much much less then MCSE (140,000+)

The law of supply and demand.

Just to add a comment, take a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/certified.asp.

In a testing provider near me (I'm in Milan - Italy) they say that I'm the
only one who made the .NET exams, but the Windows 2K Server (70-215) they
have someone taking at least twice each week...

I see that the number of MCSA and MCSE out there is just TOO big! :-)
Cheers,
Paulo

A software engineering grad would be best pursuing an MCSD. Might take a
pinch longer to find a position but in the end, developers in this industry
are generally on a much better wicket than the network guys.

Agree. Choose the cert path based on your interest. If you
want to do s/w, stick to MCSD. Don't stray and waste time
on networks only to wish you had spent more time on s/w
and vice versa. The first job, contrary to popular belief
is important. It may determine what you are doing for a
longer time than you expect.

I agree with Greg in this regard.
I did my Engineering in Electronics in 98 and started on the networking
side.
After changing couple of jobs i was in a good networking company be 2000 end
to find that its not my line. At that time i swithced to softwares. Not its
around 2.5 years and i feel a lot more satisfied / comfortable with my
softwaer job as compared to networking. And the worst thing i dislike in
networking is working in shifts. Also most of the network chores (say
upgradation / adding new things/ major maintenance) are done when nobody is
using the network (that means most of the times one needs to work in odd
hours). Also networking job i found repetetive and montonous. And if one is
in system administration then there is nothing interesting to do.

Any way..these are my experiences and may not apply to everybody..

I would purse an MCSD but you will still experience in order to get the job.
