| After buying Windows XP Pro and several MCSD books, then
buying a DVD drive, all just to install Visual Studio,
I find that I don't have IIS - it's "partially installed."
(???!!!) The MCSD and ASP text show "Creating a Virtual
Directory" using an IIS GUI, which is nowhere to be found
on my computer (why not???) How many more hoops do I have
to jump through to get IIS? I have spent ENOUGH money -
I don't want to hear that I'm supposed to PAY for IIS,
especially knowing that it's provided with Windows 2000!!!
Another thing - after paying for Macromedia Dreamweaver
MX and Flash MX, I'm using another "trial version" of
Microsoft FrontPage...Don't tell me - am I going to have
to buy that too, or is it possible to use Dreamweaver MX
with Visual Studio instead? What a waste of money and
energy. It's enough to make one go back to Linux...

| Windows XP Pro comes with IIS 5.1. This is way better than what we had with
Windows 9x (PWS4).
In Windows XP, make sure you have turned on "Display Administrative Tools"
checked under your Start Menu properties. If it is, then you should see the
Internet Service Manager MMC SnapIn shortcut under Administrative Tools.
One other thing to check, make sure you installed IIS. Go to Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel and look at the "Add/Remove Windows
Components".
Microsoft has never charged for IIS. It has always been a free add-on since
Windows NT4.
If you still can't find the shortcut, click "Start", "Run" and then type in
"mmc". Then, in the empty MMC GUI, click Add/Remove SnapIn and add "Internet
Information Services".
Save this MMC config file (*.msc) to your desktop.
Good luck.
