SInce the .NET versions have come around, how long will

All exams except the 70-300 are available.
The 70-300 exam was in beta last week and will be available around feb 2003

Ah!

Just re-read...

Well Microsoft will support Visual Basic 6 until 2008...

But in my humble opinion: Most developers will (and have already started to)
get certified in .NET
Indeed some of the developers I work with regard COM as I regard CPM...
<sigh> I'm getting old...

Anyway, in a year or so, I don't expect many developers to certify for the
COM-world anymore...

Just my 2c...

The fact that Don Box moved to Microsoft to do XML says everything about the
future of COM.
IMHO there no future.

Lonni,

You can read about what will happen to the MCSD for Visual Studio 6 at
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/...PUpdatesPR.asp.

I was told that VB support would end in Jan 2005, I guess they have
changed there minds.

interesting to see that for VC++ mainstream support will end in sept
2003 (extended sept 2005) and extended support for J++ even earlier,
in Sep-2004!

>IMHO there no future.

COM will be around a long time. No company in their right mind whose
core business is not software development, would want to
replace/redesign & rewrite systems that will simply do the same thing
only in dot net! There will be some, but given how the 'business' side
see's the IT side, it would be hard to go cap in hand to the financial
director asking for money ---- IT 'Can we have 50,000 extra this
year?' FD 'Why?' IT 'So we can re-write that system we implemented
last year [6 mouths late] into dot net' FD 'No. BTW your budget has
been cut by 50% to stop our company from going under'.

So, this means there will be systems needing supporting for some time
to come. Back in the mid 80's I was told Cobol was about to die, as C
took over the number one stop - there are still plenty of Cobol
systems running today.

Naturally the dot net framework tools will change the way software is
constructed on Microsoft platforms. And companies will have to make
the move sooner or later (or move platform vendors), However, simple
economics rather than the lack of common sense will put the chains on
gun-ho IT departments as to when the timing of this move 'may' be.
