Author 71-300 Questions on Questions

I know from 70-306 that MS does not give partial credit of
any kind. 4 out of 5 is considered 100% incorrect in MS's
eyes.

On case study exams like 70-300, they explicitly say that questions can have
multiple correct answers and partial credit. Whether or not this applies to
any specific question is not something I think they'll ever clarify.

But I think for most multiple choice questions they probably do not offer
partial credit. I expect that's most commonly used for the diagram and tree
building type questions.

Whatever said and done, I did my 71-300 yesterday and
wished that MS had been more concrete on specifiying the
number of right answers they were expecting.

To make matters worse, when I was about 2 minutes into my
comments sections, I got the "Your time is up and the
section has ended" message. I sure thank God that it did
not happen during my exam. Just pray and hope that my
answers were recorded correctly. I got the screen that
said, your test is complete now, you can expect to get
your results in eight weeks. Does it take that long?

Anyway, the two complaints I have for the 71-300 exam is
that there was more time for comments and that they were
more concrete in the number of answers (if not, MS should
atleast consider partial credit - which I think should be
the right thing to do).

Hopefully, things will all turn out for good. I was
pleased with the overall nature of the test. I think it
was a good attempt to gauge the principles and designing
skills required of an MCSD individual. The case studies
were interesting and somewhat realistic. Budgetary and
Scheduling deadlines were considered in the case (which I
liked). The risks identification was also a good thing
they tested upon. Some questions could have been more
explicit, but hey IT IS A BETA.

Thank you all for posting in this discussion forum. It
helped me a lot, especially Tim. Your codecline is awesome
man. Helped quite a bit.

As promised as soon as I get a chance, I will post some
additional links for the 70-300 exam and let you know.

Cheers,
Mano Paul

That's sort of a worst case prediction, though it'll probably be close to
that. The fastest beta turnaround I've seen was about 5 weeks.

It explicitly says before each case study that you will get partial credit
for any answer you choose is right. But I am confused if there are 5 choices
and 4 right, if I include all of them in answer, how they are going to
evaluate. In this case I selected all right answers including one wrong. Any
guess? One more thing after completing exam I did not get print out, did you
guys?

All together it was good, not as hard as I assumed.

These questions are scored in certain test engines by
giving a correct mark for each correct decision made
rather than per correct option identified. i.e. if you
select all the answers in a multiple answer multiple
choice question, you will as you say identify all correct
options and each represents a correct decision. However
you will also check options that are wrong and these are
considered as wrong decisions and therefore lead to the
whole question being marked incorrect. I assume that
Microsoft also use this method.

Sure, I can imagine several reasonable ways to score such questions, but I
have no idea how MS actually does it.

No, this has been Prometric's policy for beta exams for a while now. I
don't like it, and it always confuses the proctor too.

If you want a printout after taking the beta test you can test with VUE. I
had it this time with VUE. But I remember the printout said a longer waiting
time for the exam result than what the screen indicated at the end of the
exam.
