Author Should an MCSD be an MCNSD or MCSD.N?

Ok I have an MCSD. 4 tests. VB COM stuff.. Really old stuff now.

Now I am thinking about going for the MCSD .NET. But why?

Will the MCSD .NET get me more than an MCSD? Will there be a
special place at the store for MCSD .NETs?

Shouldn't Microsoft differentiate the .NET exams/certifications more?

I think so. What is your opinion?

I agree also. But it would probably upset many MCSDs. If MS created two
separate logos (MCSD and MCSD.NET), many MCSDs would feel as though they
need to get additional certifications to compete with newbies. But I feel
like this: If you decide to jump on the train, stay on it. If 3 years later
a new MCAD comes out (say MCAD .NET II), then I should have to get mine if I
want to stay in the competion. With distinguishing logos, etc, employers
will be less confused when looking for MCSD candidates. Some employers don't
even know that there IS a set of credentials for .NET. Therefore, I feel
that they should be different.

The Logos are the same to demonstrate the level of certification. These
should not change too much, or else they'll just confuse non-technical
employers (i.e. HR), and devalue the use of a certification program. When
you quote your certs, show the difference there - after all, that's where
the technical people will be looking (e.g. see my sig)

I'm currently an MCSD "classic" and working on upgrading
to the .NET track. I think Microsoft should definitly
give more distinction between the MCSD and MCSD.NET. The
MCSD.NET is more difficult and requires more tests. I
want to feel like I'm being rewarded more for going out
and getting certified on the new stuff. I also don't
think that any "newbie" is going to come along and breeze
through the MCSD.NET. I took the 71-300 beta last Friday
and I don't think too many people are going to get through
that on books and/or classes alone. That exam being the
key difference between MCSD.NET and MCAD, I think that any
MCSD.NET ought to be able to quite easily breeze through
the MCSD VS6, but not neccessarily the other way around.
For quite a while, most MCSD.NETs will also hold the MCSD
certifications.

I've ran into issues before with employers confusing one-
test MCPs with MCSDs thinking that two potential
candidates were both "Microsoft Certfied". I think this
problem will only be exacerbated with the MCSD.NET. I
would like to see Microsoft make more marketing efforts to
IT Management highlighting the MCSD.NET certification.
For all the mail I get from Microsoft, I wish that
Microsoft would pitch the premier certification case to
management levels more.

Exactly. I thing there may have been some confusion when I mentioned
"newbie" but we all are thinking on the same page. Consulting/recruiting
companies especially need to know the difference. Otherwise, potential .NET
developers may not land jobs. I still think that Microsoft did this to
either confuse the industry (by making it look like more qualified
candidates are out here) or to satisfy recent MCSD (non-.NET) developers. To
me, this is not right; they should definately distinguish between the two,
preferaby with the logo. In all honesty, a "somewhat technical" person
working for a recruiting company who is quickly scanning resumes (without
doing too much reading) may actually consider a MCAD over an MCSD, thinking
that MCSD is the old stuff. MCAD is already going around as "the new
Microsoft .NET Certification."
