Author 71-300 .NET Architecture

Took the .net architecture exam today with VUE. One
technical difficulty: when I got to the comments at the
end, I suddenly got an out of memory error (why the freak
are they still using win98 machines?????!!!!!). Anyway, I
was able to restart the exam and it looked like it kept
all my answers.

The exam itself had a couple of questions centering
around web services. The workflow diagraming and drag and
sequence type questions seemed easier than the 70-100
exams, not as many options that you had to get right.
Also I had the one question where it only let me choose
three realtionships when it seemed that more would have
been correct, so I just did the most obvious ones and
went on with the exam. Overall, I think the exam was
simpler and the questions more direct. The only problems
I had was when it was difficult to know what the question
was asking, there seemed to be several ways that you
could interpret the question, so the answer was not
obvious.

Good luck to y'all.

I agree with you that some of the questions seemed to have multiple answers
(even the select one multiple choice question). But the message at the
beginning of each case study did mention that some questions may have more
than one answer. This could have been what they were referring to; I'm not
sure. But overall it seemed to be ok. It didn't seem as long as I thought it
would. If I passed, this would conclude my MCSD.NET certification. (It has
been hectic these past two months accomplishing this).

I sure hope you have passed exam 300. I have also been working on MCSD .NET
and I have passed 315, 316 and 320, which made me MCAD .NET. My goal is to
become MCSD .NET, so the next shot obviously is 70-229. Been quite busy
working fulltime and studying after hours... I hope my company will value
what I've got and what I'm going through...

Cheers

I hope so too. We need the appreciation from our employers and clients. By
the way, I just passed 70-229 on Monday.

I would say it was moderate. It didn't go deep into the internal workings of
SQL server like some people told me. If you are good with logical DB design
(pk, fk, relationships, etc) and SQL then you should be ok. A little
performance knowledge would also be helpful (indexes, clustering) etc. I
bought the Inside SQL Server 2000 book to help me study, backed with about
1.5 yrs of part-time DB development. I don't feel that you have to be a SQL
Server guru to pass it.

Would still have happened on xp or.net server. Almost certainly
nothing to do with memory, rather just a bug in the code which the
coder has no idea what happened or how to handle it, i.e. along the
lines of : -

ptr = GetMyPointer();
if ( NULL == ptr )
throw AfxThrowMemoryException;

It's what beta testing all about (ya right!)

There was also one question (No 41 for me), where you had to add nodes to a
tree view on the left from a listbox on the right., but there was only one
main node in tree node while the text suggested there should be 3...

Some of the other questions where you have to choose releationships had
maximums (I had a bit of time and was wondering).

Several of the questions seemed very subjective...

I think there is also insufficient time at the end for comments (ran out and
was only half way through)
But at least it did not crash until it tried to print at the end..

Same thing happened to me. Exactly the same, Win 98 box reached the
comments and wham Out of Memory error. The exam administrator did re-boot
the box but then had to call VUE tech support personnel. They informed us
yeah the exam has been submitted but I am not sure

Case Study: Microsoft Testing
Overview:
You are hired by Microsoft to update their MCSD certification test software.
Microsoft is a small software company which certifies developers, writes OS,
sells mouse and keyboards etc. etc. all around the planet.

Current Infrastructure:
All clients use W98 machines. We dont know why. We have no idea about
servers. Internet is a useful thing...

Interviews:
Vue & Prometric: Don't do it! We'll get by with the current software we have
no budget for those.
Beta Testers: The current software crashes, some times database gets
corrupted. bla bla we loose work day patience
Microsoft: We want beta test results, quick.
New testers: Hi what are the questions like? Can you recommend any books? Is
there a link? I need it, quick. Please. Thx.
New testers after the exam: Yeah I am MCxxx Good luck to you etc .etc.
Old testers: Here is the link
http://msdn.microsoft.com/howdoes/h...QXX4756325.aspx

Questions:
1. Why are they still using Win32 machines? (Some questions may have more
than two wrong answers)
a) Money.
b) $$$
c) $
d) The old developer wrote code that would break in any other OS, and that
is impossible to maintain by another developer.
e) A serviced component.

2. It is suggested that a memory leak causes all the problems. Why would
this happen? (Choose all that may or may not apply)
a) The old developer is not .NET certified.
b) The old developer is not MCSD.
c) The old developer was an MCSD but he used braindumps. (Shame on him)
d) An XML Web Service and using SSL

3. Identify the two risks involved in writing this mail. (I said two but you
may pick as much as you like, its beta and it is free so dont worry you if
you fail, got it?)
[] You are wasting your time.
[] You are wasting your money(dialup).
[] Your boss is watching over your shoulder.
[] Your wife(boss?) is watching over your shoulder.
[] The two year old kid wants to ty dfhjkluutr.
[] Nobody will read it.
[] Everybody will read it.
[] An Xml Web Serviced SQL Advanced Web Talkes Biz .NET COMed over SSL with
Basic forms auth is availably performs.
[] It is not good for your mind health to take all the betas esp. 5 hour
ones.

Exact same boat as you, entering comments and CRASH!!
They also called VUE, and the VUE guy didn't want to talk
to me what so ever. He wouldn't even let them hand the
phone to me so I could tell them what exactly I was
doing. I guess they were getting a ton of calls
