| Hello,
I have 3 years experience in developing destop
applications in Vb6 / Sql Server 2000 / Access 2000. I am
planning to become MCSD(VB.NET). I don't know where to
start and which exam to take first.I want advice from
expertise.

| Hi.
The first hurdle I would eliminate would be experiencing the exam taking
process by taking an exam you think you can pass on the first attempt.
How strong is your SQL 2000 database design skills? Perhaps start with the
"elective" SQL 2000 Database Design exam (70-229). I must warn you, though,
that the SQL2k/SQL7 exams are considered quite tough.
Start working with VB .NET to learn the .NET runtime. It has always puzzled
my why experienced VB6 developers run to C# (because its new and cool)
rather than VB.NET. The runtime libraries are the same for any .NET
language. Why learn a new language AND a new runtime simultaneously? Learn
VB .NET to learn the .NET libraries. Then, if you'd like to work with C#,
the learning curve will not be nearly so steep.
The .NET exams are based on Visual Studio .NET. This means you must work
with a copy of one of the two Enterprise editions of VS .NET. The
Professional/Educational editions of VS .NET lack certain features that you
may or may not be tested on.
Don't be afraid of failing the exam and don't let it get you down if you
fail. Keep your chin up and take it again. Nobody is tracking the number of
failed exam attempts (excepting your checkbook and perhaps the Microsoft
Certification Team internally). The passed exams are what counts. I am not
suggesting that you "brute force" your way though the exams. If you fail, it
should only be once.
Study, study, study each of the exam requirements with every resource you
can get your hands in - especially Microsoft resources like MSDN, TechNet,
SDKs and Resource Kits. Where do you think they come up with the questions?
Best of luck to you.

| Have a look at:
http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/...mentsdotnet.asp
This is probably the best route to take.

| I think this is very good advice. I started by doing some projects in
VS.NET. Since my VB windows application experience was greater than my SQL
2000 experience, I took the VB.Net Windows application first. I studied the
topics online using MSDN, www.codeguru.com and www.cramsession.com, then the
practice tests at www.measureup.com
