The best training tool: YOU.

My thoughts on Transcenders: They offered students, beginners, interns and
even many professionals a "boost" in getting a job during a time in market
where the price was right and time was of the essence. Times have obviously
changed. I say take your time, forget transcenders, and go at the technology
with best tool you already have....your old noggin!

Don't get me wrong guys, Transcenders are in deed great. But they are a
shortcut. Would you pay for a product/service where the providers took
shortcuts? Forget the shortcut Sorin, go at it long and hard. Turn Sorin
into a quality product/service. There is no rush on quality.

Alex

Blah, Blah, Blah...

Of course "The best training tool: YOU.". But YOU need books, software,
hardware, and ...

Go with the shortcut Sorin. And BTW is not a shortcut. It will order your
thoughts. To answer their questions you need to know the material. There are
not the questions from the exam. There are build using the same technique
and pointing to the same knowledge you need to know. I will help you to know
what you do need to study more and where is your weakness.

Do you Yahoo?

When I first started doing MS testing I found that knowing the format and
understanding what testing techniques might be employed was essential to my
success. I would go with the Transcender, or any one of the more popular
test preps, once you know the material. After you've taken one or two MS
tests, they are less necessary.

Hope this helps,
DAF

The VB Desktop exam was the first Microsoft certification I passed. I
studied for it by reading books, working through examples, reading
MSDN - you name it, I looked at it.

My company decided to purchase the Transcender exams to help me out. I
was sure that I wouldn't need them, because I knew the material inside
out and back to front. I sat the practice test, and failed it
miserably. Not because I didn't know the material, but because I
didn't know how to decipher the questions.

The exams are not a shortcut or an easy option. They are simply
another studying tool. I would probably have failed the VB Desktop
exam if I hadn't used them. For instance, my official Microsoft book
said Version Compatability would not be included in the real exam, but
it was in the Transcender exam. I studied up on the topic as a result
of this, and when it *did* appear in the real exam, I knew how to
answer it.

I used the practice tests for the VB Distributed exam, but didn't buy
one for the Visual InterDev exam, mostly because I would have to pay
for it myself, and I couldn't afford it ;-). I don't think I really
needed it for the InterDev exam, because I understood the exam format
by then, and knew what to expect.

If you're just starting out on your first exam, I would advise you to
have a look, just so you're that bit more prepared. If you don't spend
ten minutes at the start of the exam panicking because you don't think
you understand the question, you'll probably do much better.

Of course, you could just treat a failed real test as experience, but
it's not much of a morale booster. I can fail the Transcender tests in
the privacy of my own home without anyone knowing about it ;-). I have
never failed a real exam in my life, and I'm not in any hurry to
start...

You're right! I only included all of my credentials to indicate that I know
of what I speak - I've been there. But to each, his own. No two people
study in the exact same way. I will tell you that I have had many, many
students over the years and the majority of them have been successful using
my methodology, but Transcenders are only one way to go. They are a great
road map, but you can certainly find your way on your own.

Good luck,

Don
etc, etc, etc...

Boson (www.boson.com) or Quizware may be options that may fit into your
budget as well. If you do some searching on the web you may also find more
sample questions in which use as study material. Just make sure you cross
reference what every you use with the curriculum and the MSDN library.

And don't forget that you can download the Transcender free trials, which
are useful.
