I have a print job pending for my HP OfficeJet 5500 that I cannot cancel. I
am running XP and have tried cancel print and the status shows deleting but
it never goes away and I cannot print any other jobs. However I can create
new print jobs and cancel them just not the initial one in the que. I have
tried rebooting the system and powering on and off the printer. Does anyone
have a suggestion on how I can clear this buffer?

You have to stop and restart the printspooler service.
(And if someone has an alternative, I'd be happy :-)
