I live in San Diego. I want to learn more about what makes a PC tick
inside... XP -operating system. Where do I start. Attending a school is out
both transportation wise and financialy. At home self learning is best for me
anyway. Is MCP or MCDST the way to go? Any information will be appreciated

MCP is a goal, not a way to learn -- you learn so that you can get the MCP.
For XP, I would start with this book (XP Inside Out):

Thanks the input is appreciated. I realize MCP is the goal for certification.
So I guess what I should have said is where do I Start to learn. Is MCP the
first goal then with more experience and learning on to MCDST.
Checked out the book , sounds good.
Thanks again

Not sure what you're asking. If you want to know what makes the PC tick,
try A+ certification, or book call Inside the PC or look for a good A+
book. If you want to learn how XP works then go for MCP or and XP
book.

If you're having a hard time deciding, go on Amazon.com and read the
book's reviews

Scooterdude,

I agree with the other posts concerning A+. Start there. With your
financial limitations not allowing you to go to school right now, working
with the computer you have and following the A+ curriculum is a great place
to start. The next step could be the Windows XP Inside Out book, but it's a
lengthly read and goes into a great deal of detail that I think might lose
you at first. I'm not saying don't get the book, it's awesome. Everything
you need to know about XP is in there, and it's a great reference. To me,
it's not a good learning tool, as it's just too much to try and swallow.

I just passed the 70-271 MCP test, and I used the MS Press 70-271 book to do
it. Granted, I have about 7 years experience working in a domain
environment, but the MS Press book hits all of the exam objectives, is
really well laid out, and doesn't overwhelm you with detail. It'll
introduce you to domain concepts and how XP behaves in that environment.
This book, the A+ book, and the XP Inside out book would be a great place
for you to start, IMHO.
