Is a VB6 MCSD worth it?

| Hi. I'm switching careers to the programming game. I just finished a
year's worth of VB6 classwork, and I'm looking for certification advice.
Given that VB.NET is the newest version of VB, does getting an MCSD
certification on the Visual Basic 6 track make sense anymore? Or would I be
better served just skipping that step altogether and starting to work
towards a .NET related MCSD?
Thanks for any comments.

| "Worth it" depends on your goal.Studying for exams will help you review what
you already know and fill in weak areas. Knowing more about your chosen
field is always worthwhile.
If your goal is to learn then you will meet your goal. If your goal is to
get a job (or a better one) in VB6, it kind of depends on the job market in
your area. Likewise with a .NET certification.
Finally, your lack of experience may be more of a negative than
certification is a positive when you apply for jobs.

| My passion is always to learn, but my more immediate goal is to get a
position as a developer.
Experience would be more helpful for this than a certification, definitely,
but given that I am switching careers mine is meager at best. The question
then becomes whether to finish work towards a VB6-related cert or switch
tracks and go full speed towards a .NET-related cert.

| You're right that certification will be a plus, given your lack of
experience. Since you're after a job I'd look in the newspapers and see what
they're asking for. Even so, I'd learn both versions of VB.
