Author Long-time Access developer endeavors to learn SQL Server 2000, seeks advice

I have begun reading through the recommended texts from MS Press and
working with the evaluation version of SQL Server Enterprise Edition
on my PC at home set up as a stand-alone server. So far, my existing
knowledge from developing Access databases and small, single-user apps
in Access has made my understanding of SQL Server go smoothly. Would
anyone care to share their opinion as to whether or not I will hit
some major walls before I get through all the material? I would like
to take the certifying exam.

I am in a catch-22 with my skillset and career and my company doesn't
see the value in investing in my training, right now. It seems to me
that learning the more powerful DBMS from Microsoft would be a good
next step with the fewest knowledge gaps to bridge. Any (thoughtful)
feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Christine

CJ...

Wow...We're in the same boat. I've been developing access solutions for 10
years. Everytime I try to jump to something I hit a wall. My experience
has been that access has spoiled me.

I tried VB. The wall was no built in report writer. Java, well, no
database. I'm a database programmer. ASP, needed a web server to do
anything. etc...etc...

I've found that my niche seems to be developing unit and division level
application using access. That's it. Period.

I'm looking for someone to act as a peer to review my work and discuss
development/design issues with. Are you interested? If so, shoot me a
note.

Good luck.
